SeaWorld Ohio-The Original Park

Mid 1970s Aerial Map of SeaWorld of Ohio

When SeaWorld of Ohio opened in 1970 on the south side of Geauga Lake, the planners took advantage it’s nearby hillside. Much of the back of the park was built on an elevation, including two of the stadiums. This also became a limiting boundary. As the park expanded, it had the habit of taking over sections of its vast parking lots.

Here’s an aerial map of the park in it’s earliest form. Note the circus-like descriptions of the shows. These would soon change to an education and conservation message.

The kids area and the Nautilus Theater would be added in the next decade on the closest parking areas. The Shark Encounter and Dolphin Cove would expand the park further in its later years out beyond the Ski Stadium.
